About Shadyvinkenstein
Shadyvinkenstein, officially known as the Kingdom of Shadyvinkenstein, was a self-proclaimed independent nation that came into existence on February 8, 2011, founded by Shady Morsi and primarily his companions. The entity asserted control over a modest 125.57 m² territory. It can be classified more aptly as a micronation, encompassing both literal and metaphorical connotations, despite the Shadyvinkensteini citizens' lack of awareness about other micronations and micronationalism until 2011. This awareness emerged when attempts were made by the Shadyvinkensteinis to affiliate with MicroWikia, subsequent to the nation's dissolution, resulting in a ban by the then administration owing to deficient grammar on its wiki page, stemming from Shady's limited proficiency in English at the time.
The nation functioned both as a physical entity and an online community, utilizing the former Dutch social media platform, Hyves, for parliamentary meetings. Cultural events were conducted in the capital, The Tree. Not having a formally designated capital due to its size, Shadyvinkenstein was essentially a de facto city-state, yet a single tree within its territorial bounds was declared the capital city.
In 2010, Shady Morsi and Stein Dros stumbled upon an abandoned building near their school, leading to the proclamation of the Republic of Shadystein. Initially a small republic with Shady Morsi as its president, it underwent a transformation into a monarchy and was renamed Shadyvinkenstein when Timo Vink joined the endeavor. Shady was then hailed as King following an election, while Timo Vink assumed the role of Prime Minister. However, recent revelations from the Shadyvinkensteini archives and captured Hyves screenshots disclosed the existence of two prime ministers who were designated as Royal Advisors. Shadyvinkenstein functioned with a degree of self-sufficiency, with citizens primarily engaged in activities such as harvesting apples from the tree.
In February 2010-11, Shady Morsi formed the Shadyvinkensteini Border Guard to intercept Dutch civilians crossing the Shadyvinkensteini border illegally.
The early history of Shadyvinkenstein is characterized as a "fuzzy set of memories," predominantly lost due to the closure of Hyves, severed contact with former citizens, and the proliferation of rumors and legends about this erstwhile state, circulated by both Shadyvinkensteiners and non-Shadyvinkensteiners. Following the closure of the nation, its territory was initially claimed by the Shadyvinkensteini Government-in-Exile until 2012 and subsequently by various micronations such as Sneazistan/Snazopol, Viadalvia, and Hoogwaard. An attempt to revitalize Shadyvinkenstein in a more serious manner was considered in 2015 but was later abandoned due to a lack of participation from the original citizens.
In December 2021, a decade after the dissolution of the Shadyvinkensteiner state, Timo Vink and Shady Morsi established a formal Shadyvinkensteini Government-in-Exile with the objective of reconstructing the memories and culture of the former state. This Government-in-Exile, however, does not lay claim to its former territory as of 2021, considering it largely demolished, with a stone fence erected and the original tree cut down. Nor does it engage in foreign relations with other entities.
